Scottie Scheffler and Carlos Ortiz each leaned on their expertise from school golf to organize them to play 30-plus holes Friday on the Memorial Event.

Scheffler performed from 2014-18 on the College of Texas. Ortiz performed from 2009-13 on the College of North Texas.

As a result of climate situations pressured the suspension of play Thursday night time, Scheffler and Ortiz had been up earlier than 5 a.m. on Friday to complete their first rounds after which play the second spherical. Altogether, Ortiz performed 31 holes and Scheffler performed 30.

Scottie Scheffler tees off on the 10th hole during the weather-delayed first round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio on Friday, June 4, 2021.

“We did this quite a bit in school,” Scheffler stated. “We performed a number of 36-hole days, so I at all times had, or I felt like I at all times had success on these days. And so for me I used to be virtually a little bit bit excited to have the ability to play that many holes in in the future.”

Scheffler completed his first spherical with a 5-under 67 and shot a 71 within the second spherical to complete at 6-under by means of two rounds.
