“Science of Grief” is a new 10-episode WDET podcast that “makes space for young adults to share stories, science and solutions for those who are exploring their mental health for the first time.” Host Natasha T. Miller says she was impressed to create these conversations via programming from the Science Gallery Detroit, her expertise educating younger individuals and her personal historical past with grief and loss.

Natasha T. Miller is a poet and host of the WDET podcast “Science of Grief.” She says her journey with grief began in 2013 with the dying of her brother. ”My brother was killed three days after Christmas … and cremated on my birthday … I spotted that if I wished to remain right here and keep sane I wanted to do one thing concerning the grief.” After this, Miller says she was impressed to open up conversations about psychological well being and loss together with her highschool college students. ”For me it was like, it’s a must to be current for these younger adults … from highschool educating poetry to the pandemic I spotted that there’s a blind spot we’ve all been lacking out on,” she says.
The pandemic has added many layers of grief to individuals already affected by loss, Miller says. ”As a Black Detroiter, it was actually, actually exhausting to navigate as a result of we’ve had a lot taken from us anyway.” With the “Science of Grief” podcast, Miller says she goals to lift consciousness across the significance of younger individuals’s psychological well being. “These younger adults … they’re dropping these moments … it’s simple for us to acknowledge our losses and push theirs apart.”
Bonnie Wheeler is a therapist and social employee with greater than 40 years of expertise.
